Baptism.
What is Baptism?
It is the 1st sacrament of initiation to the Catholic Church. At Baptism, we become part of God's Family, and our soul belongs forever to Jesus. We are each born with original sin caused by the fall of Adam and Eve. The Water of Baptism removes original sin and gives us new life. Water is poured over the head by a Bishop, Priest, or Deacon, three times, in the name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. This trinitarian formula is said exactly, or the baptism is invalid. When death is a possibility, anyone can baptize.
Everyone who is baptized is required to make a profession of faith, but for an infant, the parents make the profession of faith. Baptism prepares us for heaven because baptism bestows the theological virtues of faith, hope, and charity, which enable us to live a holy life. Faith, hope, and charity are like seeds planted in the soil of our souls, waiting to germinate later.
