Welcome by Fr. Benny

Fr. BennyWelcome to the website for Annunciation Parish. While we are a new parish in the Diocese of Evansville, coming into existence on July 1, 2014, our community is filled with the rich tradition of the former Christ the King and Holy Spirit Parishes.

I am grateful that you have discovered our website and I hope that you will find here a resource for learning more about your faith and about our community. We are committed to helping all people grow in their familiarity with Christ because we know that He is the source of all that we do. With the Holy Spirit as our guide, we hope that we can continue to carry out the mission entrusted to us.

Far from being merely a place where we gather to worship on the weekend, the parish is a place of life. It is a place where people come together to acknowledge and celebrate God's presence in their lives. It is a place where we can help one another in moments of difficulty and rejoice with one another in moments of joy.

Certainly we see this in the event of the Annunciation of the Lord recounted in Luke's gospel. Mary is visited by the Archangel Gabriel and receives the good, but overwhelming news that she will bear a son who will be called great, the Son of the Most High. It is a moment to celebrate: to celebrate God's preference for Mary and to celebrate the newness that God has introduced into her life. But it is also a moment to share, which she does immediately as she sets out to visit her cousin Elizabeth, just found to be pregnant with John the Baptist.

Annunciation Parish is a place like this. Here newness is celebrated and embraced as an invitation from God; here challenges are welcomed as opportunities for growth; here our people can accompany one another on this path of faith. My greatest fear is not that we would make mistakes or fall short in our ministry, but that we would get too comfortable and not feel the tension to go beyond ourselves.

May the Lord always be new in you and may you be filled with the same Spirit that overshadowed the Blessed Virgin Mary.
