|| An invitation from Fr. Alex ||
When I was in seminary, I had a great devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. I felt her nearness to me during my discernment and her encouragement along the way. At some point over the last 14 years of priesthood, I have noticed that I have drifted away a bit. It’s not that I don’t pray to Our Lady, but it’s different than what it used to be. I recognize that it could be better and I want it to be better.
I would also like to invite you to share in this spiritual exercise with me. I have been wondering how I might stay with you all in spirit as I leave for sabbatical. And it occurred to me that sharing in a common prayer that leads us all to Mary would be a beautiful way to stay together.
Specifically, I would like to invite you to read and pray with me the book, 33 Days to Morning Glory by Michael Gaitley, MIC. This book is a 34 day retreat with reflections each day that lead us to the point of being able to consecrate ourselves to Mary. Essentially, we are getting our hearts to a place where we can allow Mary to care for us as our mother.
I am proposing that we begin this retreat on Friday, February 21 and complete our consecration on the Feast of the Annunciation of the Lord on March 25.
|| So what do you need? ||
- You will need the book, 33 Days to Morning Glory by Michael Gaitley, MIC. It can be found online or you could order it through a local bookstore. You are encouraged to order it by February 1 to ensure you have it in time. Here are some links to various online retailers: Thrift Books, Catholic Shop, Abe Books, and Amazon.
- You will need a desire to grow in your relationship with Mary. Mary has a deep respect for our freedom and she wants us to say yes to her and her Son willingly. So pray and ask for that desire.
- You will need the schedule below. For your convenience, the schedule for all the days is shown below. The book is laid out very simply and is clear about how to follow these 34 days.
